Very often, the darkness for us is not only our own soul, but also a stranger. And if this soul belongs to a whole nation, then there is nothing to say.
Very often, being abroad and observing foreign customs, we cannot believe that someone might even think of such a thing ... Who can inspire in search of a holiday that can be celebrated?
International Pirate Day - America
The fact that the images of pirates (not those that plow the seas in our world) have long been idealized has been since Johnny Depp appeared on the screens in the role of captain (this is very important!) Jack Sparrow, but that somewhere celebrated their holiday, the Internet became known not so long ago. International Pirate Day was invented in America, and now on the streets of American cities you can meet men with hooks and an eyesore every year on September 19th, it has become commonplace. Men and women flaunt the streets, rude passers-by and strive to “steal” something as a joke. And, of course, how without a traditional treasure hunt and drinking rum?
Unknowingly, they can be confused with cosplayers, but no one will argue that the holidays are the most fun, in which you can pretend to be someone else, right?
Viking Festival - Scotland
Vikings - another "estate", the history of which often occupies the minds of people. Especially those who crave such fame or just want to look at the "real warriors" who terrified their enemies only by their appearance. Perhaps someone wants to be scared by looking at themselves in the mirror. It is for such people in the Scottish town of Lervique that Aphelio is held annually.
About forty people dressed up as Vikings march around the city with lit torches. They are accompanied by about nine hundred people who dress up according to that era - ordinary onlookers can also visit the procession, but the sensations will not be the same. The Vikings blow the horns, shout something in the Old Celtic language and carry to the sea a huge wooden boat, built in advance. This is a semblance of a ship, and, according to tradition, a breakwater dragon flaunts its bow.
When the ship is brought to the sea, all lighted torches rush to the deck: an ancient custom says that only fire can honor the memory of dead soldiers. After this, festivities continue until late at night: traditional dishes are prepared, paraphernalia for “real Vikings” are sold.
Nude Festival - Japan
But the Japanese, some customs may cause surprise or resentment. Did you think that the scene from Perfumer by Patrick Suskind was a fiction? Nothing like this! The Japanese have been coming to the square completely naked for several millennia in a row, one day a year. Only men come to this holiday. No, everything is decorous and peaceful, but is done in order to attract good luck for the coming year. Keep in mind this custom if one day you are planning to relax in Japan.
Banquet for monkeys - Thailand
But in Thailand, no one dresses and doesn’t consume almost anything: no, instead, residents of the Lopburi province annually collect a huge banquet, for which a large number of different fruits and vegetables are prepared.Pineapples, peaches, lemons, tomatoes, apricots, bananas - in a word, everything that can be found in these warm places is served on a large and overloaded table. Everything literally bursts with food. And they eat it all ... monkeys! About six hundred primates gather for this celebration to arrange a real holiday.
And they earned such an honor because they once helped the god Rama defeat an army of opponents. The geese save everything from the Romans, and the monkeys save the Thai!
